Cacao banana smoothie bowl

... like having pudding for breakfast

The banana and cacao make this smoothie so decadent it really is like eating a chocolate pudding except its super healthy and full of goodness! The botanical name for the cacao tree is theobroma cacao, which roughly translates as 'food of the gods', so in case you need any more encouragement to start your day off with chocolate, there it is. There is a difference between cacao and cocoa though so you do need to make sure you buy the right one as raw cacao has all its nutritional benefits preserved.

Cacao powder is great for:

  • Magnesium (energy production, for a healthy brain and nervous system, for our muscles and for strong bones and teeth)
  • Iron (blood production and transporting oxygen and minerals around the body)
  • High in antioxidants
  • elevating mood and supporting energy

You can also chuck in some of your other favourite superfood powders for an extra boost! I love Maca powder in this because it tastes amazing but it can also boost your mood and may relieve anxiety symptoms along with being really good for women's health and menopausal symptoms.

Ingredients

VEG, VGN, DF, GF, RSF Serves 1 ⁣

  • 130g yoghurt - I use coconut yoghurt (add a splash of nut milk if it's hard to blend or too thick)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • tbsp Maca powder (optional but recommended)
  • Superfood powders* (optional)
* I use Maca powder in this because it tastes amazing and has slightly white chocolate or vanilla flavour so its amazing in this but other superfood powders you can add are ground flaxseed, Baobab powder or ground chia seeds.

Method

Blend all the ingredients together. Serve in a bowl topped with fruit, chia seeds or nut butter, I have used frozen raspberries, chia seeds and cacao nibs.
