Books I love!

02/03/2020

Reading is a safe place to come to when my brain needs a break, it makes me feel a billion times better to read for 30 mins than to scroll on my phone or watch Netflix. My favourite places to read are in a cafe with something yummy, preferably in the sunshine outside, somewhere snuggled up with a furry friend or just on the train during my commute. I also love audiobooks, I use Audible and download the chunkier and heavier reads such as 'How Not To Die' by Dr Michael Gregor. I love listening while I walk, drive, clean or just before I sleep using the sleep timer to stop it after a set time.

I would like to share a few of my favourite books that I would like to recommend. I've tried to organise them into categories of 'Health and Wellbeing', 'Personal Growth', 'Yoga and Spiritual', 'History, Future and Nature' and 'Fiction'

What is your favourite book? Let me know in the comments below, I'd love to hear from you!

Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing

This is probably my favourite category of book, I love to learn about the mind and body and how we can take better care of ourselves.

If someone asks me for my favourite book it is without a doubt 'Why We Sleep' by Mathew Walker, this book turned my life upside down, I've read it twice and will do again. Sleep is such a complex, mysterious and super important topic that we should all educate ourselves on even if it's just a little!

'The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck' by Mark Manson is full of lessons I've found valuable, I think I've read it three times or maybe more now! It is a book I come to when I feel overwhelmed or need a bit of a reset and I highly recommend.

'The Clever Guts Diet' by Michale Mosely is a great read to understand how amazing our guts are and how we can look after them better and just how insanely important they are. I have learnt so much!

'How Not To Die' by Dr Michael Gregor explains how many of the common societal diseases we see today can be treated or cured through a change in diet. He goes through all of the foods and how they can help us and gives a daily dozen foods that are awesome for our health and we should eat every day.

'The Chimp Paradox' by Prof Steve Peters gives an easy to understand explanation of the psychological mind and how we can understand why we feel certain ways sometimes and learn to manage our 'Chimp' part of the brain.

'Reasons To Stay Alive' by Matt Haig is a detailed account of his struggles with depression and anxiety. It is an excellent read for everyone as it brings a difficult and sensitive subject out of the darkness and is about making the most of our time on earth.

Personal Growth

Personal Growth

'Deep Work' by Cal Newport is another book I've read twice it massively inspired me to work harder and more efficiently and make the most out of our time. A really motivational book to encourage you to get out of the shallows and into deep work.

'Can't Hurt Me' by David Goggins is so motivational it makes me want to try an ultra marathon, or at least get out there and do all the things I didn't think I could do. It gives a sense that anything is possible if you want it bad enough as David shows us time and time again in this book.

'Love Factually' is a book that everyone needs to read, in fact, some of the concepts should be taught in school. Such as attachment theory or the idea that you have to work for love and not just assume it is something found in a soulmate and will last forever.
