Hi there!
Welcome to The Buttercup Life! I'm Alice and I live in the southeast of England with my parents on their beautiful farm.
Some of the things that make me happiest in the world are spending time with friends and family enjoying homemade food and drinks or making the most of living in the countryside and getting out and getting a bit dirty. I love learning about almost anything but in particular reading non-fiction books on health and wellbeing, geography and the world of spatial analyses (I'm a GIS nerd) and learning new ways to exercise or improve my yoga and pole fitness skills. I graduated from a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India during November 2019 where I learnt so much I can't even begin to describe it here, but daily practice is something that me, my body and mind love.
I started 'The Buttercup Life' in 2019 to document my love of cooking and create a place to share recipes along with resources on some of my different interests. I wanted to create a place that explores all aspects of health and wellbeing, both mental and physical with sharing recipes, yoga and inspiration to be healthy and active as the central themes. It is called 'The Buttercup Life' partly because my surname (Clutterbuck) sounds a little like Buttercup and I used to be nicknamed it in school and also because during spring and summer our fields are full of them!
My approach to health and wellbeing
I believe there is no 'one size fits all' approach to health and wellbeing and understand that different people have different requirements for their way of living and what works for them. I do believe, however, that we can all find activities, food, exercise and things we love to create a happy, healthy life, full of wonder and discovery.
For exercise, I found going to the gym did not motivate me and I couldn't keep it up, but with yoga, my mind and body love it so much it feels strange to not practice daily and now it is an almost effortless ritual. I love that I can do at home with nothing but my mat or in a studio with a class or I can teach my mum or friends a little class for fun! I also love pole fitness, it builds strength in a different way to yoga and I usually leave classes in hysterical laughter and feeling so motivated and proud with my own and my friend's progress.
What is my food philosophy?
With food, I find that eating mostly plant-based whole foods makes me feel better in so many ways but I also love baking and cooking with all sorts of ingredients and I am not 'anti' any food groups. I don't stick to a certain type of diet but I love exploring vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free recipes. I don't like to close my door to any ingredients but they must be whole foods, and I avoid processed goods and any additives or ingredients with complicated names I can't pronounce!
